So you think most rural folks went and bought sheet music to play these songs we know? I 'think' its called 'an aural tradition' for a reason. After all, how did folks learn to play banjo before tab? Learn to use that ear-its better than you think. You ear is better than you think but you are making a choice to let tab replace it. Instead of investing tons of money on tabs, try investing in yourself. If you spend more time searching for tabs than trying to play the banjo, then its a problem for you, else you wouldn't be posting about it. I know you don't want to hear this from anyone, but its just being real. There's nothing wrong with using tabs the right way, but if you depend on them to supply you with everything musical you need, they will always come up short. Why do you blame the banjo for lack of tabs? The issue is with over dependence on tabs. I spend more time searching than playing.Īnyone on here make tabs for a few bucks through paypal? BUT i can NEVER find tabs for songs i want lol. Nothing i like more than to begin to learn a song, and have it actually sound like something i know and like. I don't care what you guys think, but i think learning from tab is just as good as anything else, and keeps me interested. I can't afford to get lessons, so i heavily rely on tabs. I can find tabs for the older songs im not that into all day long, but nothing i really want. I can NEVER find tabs for a song i want to play. It looks like it's going to be up to you to figure them out on your own. T'would be harder than H*** to figure out his licks, unless you are really familiar with the song in question.Īll the songs/ artists you mentioned probably DON'T have banjo tab to those tunes. ![]() ![]() Last time I saw them Dave (the banjo "picker") had a nice Stelling (not sure which model), and yes - he picks it with a flat pick. They are from here (in Duluth where I live), and I've heard them a coupla times. ![]() They are (in my imo) a "jam band" which is the antithesis of TAB. I don't think the Trampled boys have progressed enough to getting TAB our for their songs. Use it as a tool to further your picking, but don't depend on it like a crutch.Įven after learning TAB to a tune, you'll find your own way of picking it. If there is a particular lick that is escaping me, I'll lookĪt TAB again to figure out where I'm "not getting it". If I've got problems learning a song, I'll look at TAB to get a handle I find TAB useful, but I don't depend on it.
